American Draft

A Passenger Car at the Chattanooga Choo Choo

The Chattanooga Choo Choo is an iconic part of the rich historical tapestry of Chattanooga. So when we were called on to design/build a re-purposing of one of the 1946 passenger cars into a cutting edge pour-your-own draft beer bar called American Draft, we got right to work.

This custom in-house design, with elements contributed by Ian Flannery, was built using locally sourced elements as much as possible – from the hand-finished walnut floors & trim work to the custom designed walnut panels inset with locally fabricated brass by Range Projects. The site now boasts rich, sumptuous hand-tufted custom upholstery, and a Turkish Ottoman designed specifically for this project. The 2.5in thick solid maple bartops, reclaimed brass elements throughout beautifully accent the original vintage glass windows and a Shou Sugi Ban hotel-style desk and accent wall with fabricated American Draft branding. The high-end sound system, electronically controlled colored accent lighting and many other unique touches all come together to make this 29-beer bar from all regions of the United States a place you’ll want to visit every chance you get.

This was a fun project for our team, especially since the owner even got personally involved, even helping with demolition! We are very proud to be included in the revitalization that continues to restore and re-purpose so much of the history of the Chattanooga area and look forward to working with them again on upcoming projects.
